As we continue to feel, even mourn, the tragic and ever increasing shockwaves of events on the world stage, it’s vital to not be disheartened or dismayed but align ourselves with the eternal purpose revealed in God’s Word, even in this fading age. As Psalm 29:3-4 says, “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”
Amen, the voice of God rises above the tumult and unrest of the world. In the darkness of the deep, His word breaks forth with light. In the midst of the storm, He lifts our eyes in an upward gaze, and from that gaze, He draws us to rise and dance upon the waves.
Later in verses 10-11, we are reminded, “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as King forever. May the Lord give strength to His people! May the Lord bless His people with peace!”
This is the centre of God’s eternal purpose, that we might take refuge in Him, anchored securely in the harbour of His love. From this safe dwelling place of rest flow the fruits of peace and rest. This comes only from leaning our minds, our heads, upon the chest of Christ thus abiding in His presence. As Isaiah 26:3 says, which is one of my favourite verses,“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind [head] is stayed [rested] on you, because he trusts in you”. Emphasis added.
At the close of Song of Songs, we catch a glimpse of this… That she, the Bride, having been drawn and matured fully in the love of her Beloved, is seen at last in His eyes as “…one who finds peace”.
I pray that our minds be enlightened, renewed and aligned with God’s eternal perspective, purpose and truth, that our trust remains now and forever more in the One who alone gives us peace. Amen.
“Guard your hearts and don’t let go,
for from it the issues of life will flow.
A garden enclosed, a fountain sealed,
The Bride to her Beloved, her beauty revealed.”
