A Call to Respond

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”

It’s clear, we are without doubt living in unprecedented times. Riots have been erupting across the world, including here in the UK. The powers of darkness would love nothing more than for the world to be enshrouded in a dark veil from which they can stir up lawlessness. As Paul puts it, the enemy seeks to blind the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4).

God is calling us to respond. A response that brings breakthrough. The enemy may think they have the upper hand, but it will come to nothing. Like Zerah who during birth put his hand out first only to quickly withdraw it as Perez was breaking through! Let’s call forth a Perez generation to advance, arising against the uprising. Let goodness that overcomes evil prevail. Let the light of Christ shine, and may the roar of the Lion of Judah bring forth repentance.

Dear friends, God is not calling us to react but to respond. How? By humbling ourselves before Him and praying. Scripture reminds us repeatedly that God hears the cries of His people when they do.

“Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.” 2 Kings 22:19 (NIV)

On discovering the news of the planned destruction of her people, Esther called a time of fasting before she approached the king. It wasn’t a knee jerk reaction, but an appropriate response. As we draw ever closing to the end of this age, our response will count. The prayers of a righteousness person has great power as it is working (James 5:16).

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, we enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise. Lord, we know that You oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. Therefore, we humbly posture ourselves before You, that we may boldly approach Your throne of grace to ask for Your unfailing faithfulness and mercy to cover our land. May we find grace in our nation’s time of need. We stand in the gap and pray for our leaders, asking for wisdom in their response to the rising lawlessness that seeks to spread fear and anarchy. We speak against this, declaring that the counsel of the wicked will come to nothing. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
